Data Dictionaries within a systems engineering project are essential to guarantee that all stakeholders speak the same language, use the same wording and do not mistake a concept for another.
They are invaluable fuel to project- and organization-wide Knowledge and Information systems which are key to support all system development activities.
While drafting system requirements, engineers shall ensure they comply with some agreed-upon characteristics, usually taken from standards such as ISO 29148, ISO 15288 and derived guidelines, i.e. the INCOSE Guide to Writing Requirements (GtWR).
Most of the rules used to check that requirements comply with those characteristics are cross-domain, which enable a broader applicability, but the rules that mostly cause defects in requirements are the ones that rely on a data dictionary: undefined terminology, unknown acronyms, appropriate subjects/objects/functions in a given context, which all harm the clearness of requirements.
This webinar will stress the impact of data dictionaries on requirements quality, and show how well data dictionaries team up with automated requirements verification compliant with the latest version of the INCOSE Guide to Writing Requirements (v4.0).
